Mr. Bernard Waugh named Shady Brook Elementary School Principal

Mr. Bernard Waugh will begin serving as principal at Shady Brook Elementary School beginning February 1, 2024.  Mr. Waugh has been serving as the assistant principal at Forest Park Elementary since 2019 and was named the 2023 KCS Assistant Principal of the Year.  Prior to serving at Forest Park, Mr. Waugh also served as a teacher at Kannapolis Middle School for nearly 20 years, and served as an Assistant Principal in the Mooresville Graded School District for two years. 

Superintendent, Kevin Garay, stated “Bernard Waugh cares immensely about the KCS community and has dedicated the majority of his career to our district.  He is incredibly motivated to lead Shady Brook Elementary and we know he will be successful.  Throughout his career he has exhibited a strong work ethic, servant leadership, and an ability to build relationships.  We are excited to see him in this new role.”  

Waugh received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Social Science from Houghton College in New York.  He earned a Masters in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction from State University of New York at Fredonia and a Masters Certificate in Education Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
