Based on changing COVID data in our community and quarantine guidance, the Kannapolis City Board of Education voted during their Regular Meeting on Monday, August 9, 2021, to require masks indoors for all students, staff, and visitors beginning August 10, 2021. This new recommendation should result in reducing student and staff quarantines, allowing them to remain in the classroom and to continue participating in extracurricular activities. This, paired with other mitigation measures, such as social distancing, air quality improvements in each school, and reducing large assemblies and gatherings, will keep more students learning face-to-face. Recommendations from the state and local health agencies will be continually reviewed and the Board of Education will make changes to this requirement when appropriate.
KCS district leadership will continue to monitor federal and state guidance, remain in contact with our local health agencies, and provide any related updates as soon as possible. Please watch for back-to-school information being shared by schools.
