Schedule

  • KCS will be split into two groups

  • Group A--Face-to-Face Monday & Tuesday, Remote Wednesday & Thursday

  • Group B--Remote Monday & Tuesday, Face-to-Face Wednesday & Thursday

  • Friday-Remote for all students

  • Students will be with classroom teachers during face-to-face and will work on remote learning opportunities posted by their teacher(s) while working remotely 

  • EC Self-Contained and/or full separate setting students would be permitted to attend face-to-face instruction Monday-Thursday

  • Students will be learning remotely full-time

  • Students will use an online platform called Edgenuity

  • Edgenuity is a state-approved platform for online learning that aligns with the North Carolina standards

KCS Teacher Involvement

  • Teachers will be with students during face-to-face instruction and create and support the remote learning opportunities and support the student

  • Teachers will offer ongoing feedback to students for remote instruction (during structured times to connect and when students are face-to-face)

  • The content will be delivered through modules in the Edgenuity platform

  • KCS teachers will monitor the sequencing and pacing of the curriculum, have scheduled check-in and support times with students and be available to connect with students for help

  • KCS teachers will also monitor student progress multiple times during each week 

Courses Available For Students

  • Elementary--students take their grade level subjects and special subjects (Art, Music, PE)

  • Secondary--students are able to take nearly any course available through KCS (some courses that involve internships, etc. could be limited)

Health & Safety

  • Cloth face coverings must be worn by all staff and students when on buses and on school property. (Exemption will exist for medical, developmental or behavioral conditions - medication documentation required.)  KCS will provide students and staff with five reusable cloth face coverings.  Staff and students may provide their own face coverings but it may not be a bandana or a distraction to instruction

  • Protocols will include social distancing, directional hallway signs, staggered schedule

  • Thermal scanners and thermometers for daily temperature checks - students and staff with temperature of 100.4 or higher will be isolated until they can leave campus

  • Students exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will be monitored in an isolation area while waiting for parent pick-up

  • Sanitizer readily available for students and staff; hand washing times will be scheduled throughout the day

  • Only essential visitors will be permitted on campus

  • Item sharing will be extremely limited and, if shared, must be sanitized

  • No more than one student will be permitted to use the restroom at a time; students will be able to refill water bottles/cups at water fountains but will not be permitted to drink directly from water fountains.  School playgrounds and recess equipment remain closed.  Opportunities will still be provided for recess. 

Students would not be attending for face-to-face instruction.

Cleaning

  • Daily fogging and disinfecting of classrooms, cafeterias, buildings and buses

  • Buses would be cleaned between a.m. and p.m. and after p.m. routes

Nine weeks for elementary; one semester for grades 6-12

Parent Involvement/Support

  • Parents will be able to connect with teachers throughout the week during scheduled times and Fridays will be designated for this throughout most of the day

  • Parents will receive “orientation” information as school begins on use of platforms (Canvas, Shobie, SeeSaw) and other helpful blended learning tips

Technology Devices

Will be available for every student, K-12 (distribution to likely occur during 1st week of school)

Before/After School Care

  • Will be available through KCS as long as staffing permits for the days that a student is on campus (face-to-face)

School Nutrition

  • Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will receive pre-packaged meals in the cafeteria.  There will be staggered meal times and students will be socially distanced. All other grade levels will receive pre-packaged meals delivered via food carts to the classrooms.  Snacks will not be available to purchase as to minimize contact between students and staff.

  • Grade 2-12 students will receive meals in the classroom

  • All meals will be pre-packaged and will include entree, bread, fruit, vegetable and milk.  Trays and utensils will be disposable.

  • Students with food allergies and special diets will be handled on an individual basis. Diet order must be on file and signed by medical professional

  • Grab-N-Go breakfasts and lunches will be available for curbside pick-up on virtual learning days at all school locations from 12-1 pm. Parents/students should pick up meals at the school where their child attends. If parents have multiple children at different KCS schools, parents can pick up meals at the school closest to their home. Meals will be given out according to the number of students attending remote/virtual learning.

Grab-N-Go breakfasts and lunches will be available for curbside pick-up Monday-Friday from 12-1 pm at all school locations. Parents/students should pick up meals at the school where their child attends. If parents have multiple children at different KCS schools, parents can pick up meals at the school closest to their home. Meals will be given out according to the number of students attending remote learning. Parents of students with special diets will need to call their individual school cafeteria manager 24 hours in advance to ensure meals are prepared and ready for pickup. Parents will need to have a signed (by medical professional) diet order in place to receive a special diet.

Extracurriculars

  • Athletics, Band, Cheerleading-may participate

  • Other Events (Open House, Arts, etc.)-will likely occur virtually under Plan B

Pre-K & Wee Wonders

  • Four-year-olds and McKnight EC students will attend in-person four days/week and have remote learning one day/week

  • Students will be screened daily

  • Nine students per classroom

  • School start times will be staggered

  • Staff will wear masks; students will not

  • Three-year-olds will receive remote instruction each day
