Dr. Lyndsey Pelusi To Become Principal Of Woodrow Wilson
The Kannapolis City Board of Education has named Dr. Lyndsey Pelusi to become the new principal of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School beginning in July. She will replace Jason Irving who is moving to G.W. Carver Elementary to become that school’s principal at the end of the school year.
Dr. Lyndsey Pelusi has been in Kannapolis City Schools since 2011. During that time, she has served as a teacher, lead teacher, Principal Intern, and assistant principal. From 2014 to 2018, she served as assistant principal at Fred L. Wilson Elementary. While there, she helped launch the school’s Global Studies and Spanish Language Immersion programs. In August of 2018, she moved to G.W. Carver Elementary to become assistant principal of Kannapolis City Schools’ A+ Arts magnet program.
“Dr. Pelusi has tremendous experience,” says Dr. Chip Buckwell, KCS Superintendent. “She has done an excellent job in all of her roles in Kannapolis City Schools and is a natural leader. She is a wonderful educator who has the respect of students and colleagues. She will do an outstanding job as principal of Woodrow Wilson, and we are excited that she will have this opportunity.”
Dr. Pelusi earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Wingate University. She received her Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from UNC Charlotte.
In addition to naming Dr. Lyndsey Pelusi as the new leader of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, the Kannapolis City Board of Education announced that Judith Wherritt and Lenore Thompson will move to different schools to serve as assistant principals. Judith Wherritt is currently assistant principal at Fred L. Wilson Elementary. In July, she will move to G.W. Carver Elementary to become assistant principal at that school. Wherritt had previously worked at G.W. Carver Elementary as the school’s Instructional Data Coach. She is familiar with G.W. Carver’s programs, students, and staff. She will work with new principal Jason Irving when he moves from Woodrow Wilson Elementary to G.W. Carver Elementary in July.
When Judith Wherritt moves from Fred L. Wilson Elementary to G.W. Carver Elementary in July, she will be replaced by Lenore Thompson. Thompson is currently the assistant principal at Forest Park Elementary School. She has served in that role for the last five years and has been with Kannapolis City Schools since 1995. In July, Thompson will move to Fred L. Wilson Elementary to become assistant principal and work with principal, Dr. Mandi Campbell.
Superintendent, Dr. Chip Buckwell, says Kannapolis City Schools is fortunate to have excellent people to lead its schools. “Lyndsey Pelusi, Judith Wherritt, and Lenore Thompson are proven leaders who are respected across the district. They will bring their expertise to new schools and work with other strong leaders. Thanks to their leadership and experience, we will have excellent teams in place at all of our schools for the start of the 2019-2020 school year.”
Kannapolis City Schools is now beginning the search for a new assistant principal to replace Lenore Thompson at Forest Park Elementary.
