Dress Code Policy Update
Kannapolis City Board of Education has, in partnership with district and school leaders, reviewed and revised the Student Dress Code (Policy 4316) for the school year. The Board believes that a safe and supportive learning environment is essential to operating successful schools. To this end, the Board has adopted a student dress code to assist administrators, teachers, students and parents in fulfilling a mission of Kannapolis City Schools to provide all students quality educational opportunities that enable them to become successful and responsible citizens. This dress code is designed to encourage learning, promote positive behavior, and support safety.
First and most importantly, KCS is pleased to share that the revisions to the dress code do not require any new clothing items. Items of clothing that met the dress code last school year will continue to meet the dress code this year.
Secondly, options for dress code have been expanded. For example, collared shirts may now be any color. Additionally, shirts with a KCS or KCS school logo, including KCS school spirit wear, will be permitted every school day. Outerwear has been specifically expanded to now include hooded sweatshirts or jackets worn over other approved top wear, as long as the hood is removed from the head while inside the school building or on the school bus. Also, pants may now be gray, in addition to navy, black or khaki.
