Dr. Chip Buckwell to Serve as Interim Superintendent
Kannapolis City Schools is excited to announce that Dr. Chip Buckwell will return to the district as Interim Superintendent following the retirement of Kevin Garay on February 1, 2025.
Dr. Buckwell, a respected and experienced educational leader with deep ties to KCS, will guide the district during this time of transition. In January, he will work closely with Mr. Garay to ensure a smooth and seamless handoff of responsibilities.
Kevin Garay, who has served as Superintendent since 2021, has been a transformative leader, fostering growth, innovation, and community engagement throughout the district. His leadership has left a lasting legacy, and he will be greatly missed. The Kannapolis City Board of Education extends its gratitude to Mr. Garay for his outstanding service and wishes him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
