The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to honor outstanding representatives from around the district at its April meeting.
North Kannapolis Elementary School
Ella Parker is the kind of student who brightens every room she enters. At North Kannapolis Elementary, she leads with kindness, shows unwavering determination, and sets an example for her peers in all she does.
Ella is known for her respectful attitude, strong work ethic, and natural leadership. Whether tackling a tough assignment or lending a hand to a classmate, she approaches every situation with thoughtfulness and care. Her positive energy and encouraging spirit make her a true friend to all.
Academically, Ella is focused, curious, and always willing to challenge herself. She gives her best effort every day—not for recognition, but because she genuinely values learning and growth.
Ella’s quiet compassion and consistent kindness make a lasting impact on our school community. She lives out our values every day, and we are proud to celebrate her as a shining example of what it means to be an Excellent Eagle.
Elijah Pascal exemplifies what it means to be an Excellent Eagle. With a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and quiet leadership, he shows up each day ready to learn and grow.
Elijah’s determination is inspiring—he meets challenges with resilience and never backs down from hard work. His academic growth this year is a direct result of his focus, perseverance, and desire to improve. But what stands out even more is his character.
He is respectful, responsible, and kind. He encourages others, leads by example, and reflects the values of our school in all he does. Elijah’s peers look up to him—not just for his accomplishments, but for the way he treats others.
We are proud to recognize Elijah for his outstanding contributions to our school community. Thank you, Elijah, for being a true role model and a reminder of the power of effort, kindness, and heart.
Kelly Oehler is a true cornerstone of North Kannapolis Elementary. In her role supporting small groups and interventions, she brings dedication, heart, and a steady presence that uplifts both students and staff.
Kelly goes above and beyond to meet students’ academic and emotional needs, always seeing the whole child and celebrating every step of growth. Her work is grounded in relationships, and her belief in each student makes a lasting difference.
She’s also the teammate everyone counts on—always ready to step in, offer encouragement, or lend a hand. Her kindness, humility, and tireless work ethic make her an invaluable part of the NKE family.
We are proud to recognize Kelly for her unwavering commitment and the joy she brings to our school. Thank you for all that you do—you make North Kannapolis a better place every day.
Mr. Charles Willimon is an outstanding educator whose impact reaches far beyond the classroom. He teaches with heart, creativity, and purpose—creating a space where students feel seen, supported, and excited to learn.
Known for his engaging lessons and meaningful connections, Mr. Willimon brings subject matter to life and uses creativity—like music and interactive simulations—to make learning memorable. His students know he cares, and that trust fuels their growth.
Beyond teaching, Mr. Willimon serves as a leader in our school—co-leading the Core Behavior Team and managing our School Improvement process. His insight, dedication, and calm leadership help move our school community forward.
He also goes the extra mile to ensure equity, securing donations to make a 4th grade field trip accessible for all students—just one example of his quiet, powerful commitment to doing what’s best for kids.
We are proud to honor Mr. Willimon for his dedication, leadership, and the positive difference he makes every day at North Kannapolis.
Jason Barber has been a dedicated partner to Kannapolis City Schools, making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and families. His commitment to building strong community connections has strengthened our schools in countless ways.
Jason launched the “Junior Gents” mentoring program—known by many students as “Gmen”—which pairs positive adult role models from local faith and community organizations with students in all of our elementary schools. The program has helped students build confidence, find support, and feel a stronger sense of belonging.
In addition, Jason regularly assists families with urgent needs—from home repairs to locating financial resources—always stepping in with compassion and care.
The Board was also pleased to recognize the Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month, Tammie Tourtellott, 7th-grade science teacher, Kannapolis Middle School 7th/8th. A dedicated and passionate educator, Mrs. Tourtellott goes above and beyond for her students, her team, and the entire school community. Every day, she walks into the classroom with a smile, ready to inspire and engage her students in the wonders of science.
In addition to teaching 7th-grade science, Mrs. Tourtellott serves as the assistant athletic director and the spring first responder for the athletics department, ensuring that student-athletes are supported both on and off the field. Her dedication extends beyond the school, as she actively advocates for veterans through her work with Leashes of Valor, a nonprofit that provides service dogs to those who have served our country.
Mrs. Tourtellott’s students describe her as energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to making learning fun. She brings science to life through engaging lessons and activities, creating an environment where students are excited to learn.
