Remote Learning Day

Remote Learning Day – Requirements & Expectations 

Purpose: A remote learning day allows learning to continue when students and staff are unable to attend school in person. These expectations ensure continuity of instruction, clarity for families, and accountability for attendance. 

Student Expectations 

Pre-K – 8th Grade Students 
  • Students will complete a Choice Board provided by their teacher or school.
  • Directions on the Choice Board: 
    • Please choose one activity from each subject area: Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. 
    • You do not have to complete all the activities—just one from each area.
    • All work is due within 5 school days of the remote learning day. 
    • Be sure to bring your completed activities with you when you return to school. 
    • Pre-K Choice Boards
    • K-8 Choice Boards (previous board, due February 3-4)
    • K-8 Choice Boards (Part 2)
  • Students do not need to complete all work on the remote learning day itself; however, all assigned work must be completed and submitted within the 5-school-day timeline. 
  • Submission of work is required in order to receive attendance credit for the remote learning day. 
  • Completed work should be submitted in paper form. 
  • Pre-K students will be offered 2 remote moments, per pre-k guidelines.

High School Students 
  • High school teachers will provide an assignment or learning activity through Canvas for each course they are enrolled in. 
  • Students must submit the assigned work through Canvas. 
  • All work is due within 5 school days of the remote learning day. 
  • Submission of work is required in order to receive attendance credit for the remote learning day.

Attendance Expectations (All Grades) 

  • A remote learning day counts as a school day. 
  • Attendance is based on completion and submission of assigned work.
  • Students must submit work within 5 school days following the remote learning day for attendance to be recorded. 
  • Schools will follow district procedures for documenting attendance for remote learning days. 

Teacher Expectations 

  • Teachers are expected to: 
    • Provide assigned learning activities (Choice Boards for Pre-K–8; Canvas assignments for high school). 
    • Be available via email to students and parents during normal school day hours. 
    • Be available for meetings scheduled by the school leadership team, including virtual meetings if applicable, during normal school day hours.
  • Teachers may use the remote learning day to complete professional responsibilities such as: 
    • Lesson planning 
    • Grading and providing feedback 
    • PLC meetings 
    • Data review and instructional planning 
    • Online trainings (i.e. Vector Training, NCEES Professional Development) ● Live instruction is not required. ***Pre-K Teachers: Each classroom will offer 2 Live Remote Moments each day that Remote Learning is offered in the district.*** 

Instructional Assistant Expectations 

  • Instructional Assistants are expected to: 
    • Work their normal scheduled hours during a remote learning day. ○ Be available via email or other school-approved communication platforms during normal school day hours. 
    • Be available for meetings scheduled by the school leadership team, including virtual meetings if applicable. 
    • Support teachers and students as assigned, which may include: 
      • Assisting with preparation, organization, or distribution of instructional materials
      • Supporting communication with students or families when directed
      • Assisting with tracking student work completion related to attendance requirements 
  • Instructional Assistants may use the remote learning day to complete professional responsibilities such as: 
    • Preparing instructional or intervention materials 
    • Supporting lesson planning and organization with teachers 
    • Assisting with data organization, documentation, or classroom preparation ○ Participating in PLCs, professional learning, or team meetings if scheduled ○ Completing online trainings (i.e. Vector Training) 

School Leader Expectations 

  • School leaders should: 
    • Be available via email to staff, students, and parents during normal school day hours. 
    • Be available for virtual district or school meetings during normal school day hours. 
    • Ensure Choice Boards and instructional materials are prepared in advance, copied, and ready for distribution. 
    • Be able to share materials digitally if needed. 
    • Schedule and communicate any required meetings for staff. 
    • Support clear communication with families regarding expectations, timelines, and attendance requirements. 

Family Communication 

Families should understand that: 

  • A remote learning day counts as a school day. 
  • Students must complete and submit assigned work to receive attendance credit. ● Work may be completed after the remote learning day, as long as it is submitted within 5 school days. 
  • Teachers will be available by email during the school day to support questions.
