Remote Learning - Plan B

  • KCS Return to Learn Booklet Kannapolis City Schools is opening the 2020-21 school year under North Carolina’s Plan B for school districts. Plan B is based upon numerous health and safety protocols, including reduced student capacity for each school, each classroom/space, and each day. Additionally, all staff and students must wear masks, staff and students must be screened daily upon entry and several mandatory cleaning practices are required. KCS Reentry Teams created the Return to Learn Booklet and Plan 'B' Instuctional Details Presentation for parents to better understand the day-to-day operations under Plan B.

As Kannapolis City Schools did this past spring, we are focusing on three main areas for remote teaching and learning: KCS Cares, KCS Connects and KCS Collaborates.

KCS Cares

KCS Connects

KCS Collaborates
Ongoing instructional planning, professional development, and overall preparation for remote instruction.

Options

  • KCS has two options under Plan B.  Families have had an opportunity to choose Option 1 or 2.

    • Option 1- Blended learning; students will attend school two days per week and participate in remote learning the remainder of each week.
    • Option 2- Full remote learning; students will work remotely throughout each week.

Like most districts opening under Plan B, KCS has nearly one-third of our students participating in full remote learning.  Because of the high number and because students under Option 1 will also work remotely three days a week, KCS has worked to minimize differences between the instruction under Options 1 and 2. Click here to compare the two options.

Structure & Schedule

  • To meet the building/classroom capacity limits, KCS (K-12) has two cohorts of students, Cohort A and Cohort B under Option 1. Cohorts will be approximately 50% or less of students per group (and per day). Elementary cohorts are based on leaderships teams at each school balancing students per grade level (numbers, demographics). Secondary cohorts are based on the geographical split of KCS (by the two zip codes).

Cohort A Cohort B
Monday Face-to-Face Remote
Tuesday Face-to-Face Remote
Wednesday Remote Face-to-Face
Thursday Remote Face-to-Face
Friday Remote Remote

The complete student cohort calendar can be found here. Please visit the KCS Connects page for more specific details about Plan B instruction.
