Mr. Angelo DelliSanti - Principal

Mr. DelliSanti began his journey with Kannapolis City Schools as an elementary school student at Shady Brook Elementary School. He was raised in Kannapolis City Schools, graduating from A. L. Brown High School in 2003. He began his teaching career at A. L. Brown High School as a World History Teacher in 2007. During his five years as a teacher, Mr. DelliSanti served in the following capacities: School Improvement Team member, Freshman Academy team leader, Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council member, Transition Coordinator, and athletic coach. In 2012, Mr. DelliSanti became an Assistant Principal at Mooresville Middle School. After serving in that role for two years, Mr. DellISanti became the Principal of Jesse C. Carson High School in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools System, where he was named the 2018 RSS District Principal of the Year. In June 2019, one of Mr. DelliSanti’s lifelong dreams came true, as he was named the Principal of A. L. Brown High School. Mr. DelliSanti earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Secondary Education from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2007, where he graduated with honors and as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. He earned a Master’s Degree in School Administration from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2013 and is currently in the dissertation phase of earning his Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Mr. Garrett Cooperman - Assistant Principal

Mr. Cooperman started teaching in Mexico, New York after completing his degree in education. He worked at Vance High School and Performance Learning Center High School in Charlotte before joining the Wonders at A. L. Brown as Assistant Principal in 2018. He is proud to wear green and white, and a firm believer that education is about helping students grow into the best possible versions of themselves –innovative, creative, kind leaders of tomorrow. Mr. Cooperman earned a B.S. in Secondary Education and English at SUNY College at Oswego in New York, a M.A. in English with a focus in games studies at SUNY University at Buffalo, and a post graduate certificate in School Administration from UNC Charlotte. Mr. Cooperman maintains NC licenses for English 6-12 and Principal K-12. He also holds a second degree black belt in martial arts.

Mrs. Alex Elliott - Assistant Principal

Alexandria Elliott graduated from A. L. Brown High School – Class of ’99.  Following graduation she began her stint as a non-traditional student beginning at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.  Two years later, a weekend college visit to the High Country turned into a love for the mountains of Boone, North Carolina where Alexandria would matriculate and study English and Special Education at Appalachian State University.  Alexandria later enrolled at Wingate University and graduated with her Master’s Degree in School Administration.  Over the span of her career, Alexandria joined the ranks of remarkable educators and school/district leaders in Caldwell (Spartans) and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Counties (Lions & Mavericks).  

Alexandria continues to work alongside remarkable educators and students in KCS while devoting her time building and bridging school and community relation/partnerships. While trying to make sense of the daily crazy that she loves in education, Alexandria approaches her day with the “Pledge of Success” taken from the June 30, 2008 Sports Illustrated Edition…“Today is a new day, a new beginning…I promise to use this day to the fullest.”  Every day -- is a new day, a chance to reset and reflect on what’s important and this is essential for students, staff, and families.

Dr. Sara Newell - Assistant Principal

Sara has been in KCS since 2002, has taught third grade, sixth grade ELA and Social Studies, seventh grade ELA and seventh and eighth grade honors ELA, coached cheerleading, track and field, and cross-country, has served as the AIG Coordinator for the district, and currently serves as an Assistant Principal at AL Brown High School.  Sara’s educational philosophy is that students should be at the heart of all educational decisions and that all students have the chance to succeed. Using this philosophy as a guiding force, Sara continues to advocate for students’ best interests in all she does!

Originally from Rochester, NY, Sara Newell moved to Kannapolis in 2002 after completing her undergraduate degree in elementary education at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. Sara also minored in Psychology while at St. Bonaventure University. As a life-long learner, Sara earned her National Boards in 2009, her masters in Middle Grades from Gardner-Webb University in 2013, her AIG certification from UNC-Charlotte in 2015, her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University in 2018, and most recently, her Educational Leadership License from Gardner-Webb University in 2019.

Mr. Mauricio Restrepo - Assistant Principal

Mr. Mauricio Restrepo - Assistant Principal

Mr. Restrepo is originally from West Haven, Connecticut.  Born from Colombian immigrants, Mauricio moved with his wife and 2 children to the Charlotte Area 7 years ago.  He has his associates degree from Gateway Community College, his Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from Southern Connecticut State University and his Master’s in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  He also has his certificate in Curriculum and Supervision. 

Mr. Restrepo taught with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools at West Mecklenburg High School.  As the AP Spanish Teacher and department chair, he helped students reach their goals year after year.  As the Student Government Advisor he helped students lead others to their own successes. Mauricio believes all students can succeed and wants to help them realize their own path to success.  He truly feels all Wonders can be successful and no two paths are the same.
