Career and College Readiness Begins with CTE
Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses provide a strong foundation for post-secondary education and careers. Whether students plan to further their education in community college, technical schools, four-year colleges and universities, receive on-the-job training, or pursue careers in military, CTE can be the first step toward productive employment and citizenship. The mission for the CTE program in Kannapolis is to help empower students for effective participation in an international economy as world-class workers and citizens. We fulfill this mission by:
- Preparing students for post-secondary education in career technical fields and lifelong learning.
- Preparing students for initial and continued employment.
- Assisting students in making educational and career decisions.
- Applying and reinforcing related learning from other disciplines.
- Assisting students in developing decision-making, communication, problem-solving, leadership, and citizenship skills.
- Preparing students to make informed consumer decisions and apply practical life skills.
- Making appropriate provisions for students with special needs to succeed in career technical education programs.
One of the fastest, consistently growing career industries in North Carolina is in the Health Care industry. In the Health Science career cluster, students will learn about health care ethics, forensic medicine, infectious diseases, organ transplants, cell biology and cancer, and biomedical research. Concepts of team work and effective communication are reinforced.
In this series of courses, students will engage in project based learning, work based learning, and have the opportunity to earn the industry recognized credentials.
Students have the opportunity to earn multiple professional industry recognized certifications in our Adobe Academy. The Adobe Academy provides students with industry knowledge and skill in the areas of graphic design, web design, animation, & video.
Architecture, Construction, & NCCER Certification
While at A.L. Brown, students can earn their NCCER, the National Center for Construction Education and Research, credentials. Emphasis on the development of skills in the areas of carpentry, framing, roofing, walls & doors, stair construction are the essential focuses in the field of study. English Language Arts and Mathematics skills are reinforced.
Students learn the principles of business and finance essential for smart business management and marketing. Students have the opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials.
Family & Consumer Sciences
Family and Consumer Sciences Education empowers students across their life spans to manage the challenges and dynamics of living and working with a unique focus on families, work, and interrelationships. Our culinary program is one of finest in the state where he students have the opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials. Our Early Childhood program also provides students with cooperative internship experiences.
