Experience The Difference of Kannapolis City Schools

  • Kevin Garay

In Kannapolis City Schools, and as shared in our KCS 2020-25 Strategic Plan, our vision is to value, inspire, and support all students. In achieving this vision, culture matters greatly.  Part of what shapes this culture is that we promote an environment that ensures safety, community, equity, and growth.  This is the mission of KCS.  Further, we are committed to making decisions based on equity, high expectations and putting students first.  For our students and staff to reach desired outcomes, we must continually promote the characteristics of a strong culture.  Transparent and positive communication, inclusivity, valuing our diversity and all of our stakeholders, supporting social/emotional needs, and celebrating our successes, are all priorities in KCS.  We believe that by prioritizing all of the above, we are better able to not only improve the academic growth of students but also to improve in multiple areas of student success.

In recent months, we have seen former graduates of Kannapolis City Schools receive national (and even international) attention as attorneys, astronauts, pastry chefs and track and field athletes (among other professions).  We continue to prepare our students for postsecondary success based on well-rounded, creative curriculum and course opportunities that allow our students to fully explore college and career interests.  There are numerous opportunities for student success and we are proud of our dedication to continuously expanding our options.  In fact, in 2021-22, we will begin our second dual-language immersion program in KCS--at Jackson Park Elementary.  We are just as excited about our new STEM-focused instructional approach at North Kannapolis Elementary and the new career exploration opportunities at Shady Brook Elementary.  There is something for all students in Kannapolis City Schools and a commitment to support all students as they find this success.  I could not be more proud to, alongside over 800 other KCS staff members, serve the students and families of KCS.  On behalf of all of us, thank you for choosing KCS and please always let us know how we may better support you.
