Welcome to McKnight Headstart!
We want to be there for you….
During this time, we are moving to an online form of academic, performance based, behavioral, and play based form of instruction. Although we know that this is not the ideal situation for our students, we feel that parents are capable of working with their child so that they can accomplish developmental milestones. Our page will contain posts to help you with behavior and learn how to play with your child so that they can keep up with the progress that we have been making this school year. You will also need to know that we will be combining both Woodrow PreK and McKnight PreK for instructional purposes. There will only be one format for the entire PreK programs within our district.
We want to share learning experiences with you…
As an effort to ensure that we are covering bases with your child’s goals, we will also be holding online meetings with your child through video collaboration tools such as Google Meet and Zoom Meetings. These outlets allow us to view multiple students while they are home, and the teacher and teacher assistant are able to conduct small mini lessons for your child to participate in. Your child will be able to see their friends during the meeting and their teachers all at the same time. It is an awesome experience. As a parent, you will be able to see your child’s teacher model lessons and then in turn use them in your home.
We want to support you…
Please know that we are doing everything we can to help you with this new role as a parent that you have. We are here to help. Do not feel alone. This is a new frontier for all of us.
We want to connect with you…
On another note, we have to all realize that we are getting information on an hourly and daily basis on how to proceed with this situation from the state. We will be putting pertinent information on Facebook (Kannapolis City Schools and McKnight Child Development Center). You will also be receiving Connect-Ed messages maybe several times a week. Please keep up with that communication. You may also contact us on with the email firstname.lastname@example.org. That email will be the mail point of contact for us during this time. The office is closed and no phone calls will be taken.
We want you to have what you need…
If you have items to be picked up or dropped off you have options. If you need to pick up anything, we will be having a lunch service through our car rider line daily. Teachers can leave packets there. If you need to drop off items, you may do that during the lunch line or you may go to the front office and drop off items in a drop box at the front door. The drop box is red and looks like a small mailbox. That drop box will be checked on weekly basis.
We will get through this together…
In closing, I would like to say that we are all in this together. We are all learning new things. Take this challenge on with positivity. Your role as a parent is the most important thing. I know you have it in you. You will feel good about what you have done for your child. All that is important is that you love your child and want to do what is best for them. Words cannot describe how much we will miss you and your child at this time. Please take advantage of all that we are offering so your child will be ready to start the new school year. By taking part in the online lessons and online resources is the best way to do that.
