The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to recognize outstanding representatives from McKnight Head Start during its October board meeting. We are very grateful to the Mary Beth Burgess State Farm Insurance Agency for donating $100 to the McKnight library in appreciation of the honorees.

  • David Stanback:  David Stanback is a four-year-old student at McKnight. He is kind and gentle and finds joy even in mundane situations. He gets excited over the little things of being a preschooler, such as calling his friends to line up. Even though David’s communication skills were limited in his previous year at McKnight, he has blossomed into a leader in his classroom. He loves coming to school and greets everyone with a smile. Every staff member would like to take him home, but we’re sure his parents would not be too pleased. David is an outstanding student and a wonderful part of McKnight.

  • Jaleah Scott:Jaleah Scott is in her second year at McKnight. When she first came to the school, she didn’t want to leave her mother’s side, and she was hesitant to enter the classroom. However, all that has changed. Now, Jaleah’s face shows confidence when she enters the building. She is making new friends each day, and she is kind to everyone. She is the first to help clean up or help a friend in need. She is also artistic, well mannered, and a quiet girl who will play with everyone. We are delighted to honor Jaleah for her excellence.
  • Tracy Braun:  Tracy Braun is a speech and language pathologist at McKnight. She plays a vital role by providing speech and language services to students and by helping teachers work with students to use language more in the school environment. Mrs. Braun can always be seen working with children. She is full of energy and positivity, and the staff truly appreciate her. McKnight is a better place because of her hard work and determination.

  • Taylor DeLee:Taylor DeLee is a Teacher Assistant at McKnight. She has earned her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and is a leader in the classroom. Early in her time at McKnight, the teacher in her classroom changed roles. Taylor stepped up and showed her leadership skills. She worked with many substitutes and dealt with challenging behaviors in the classroom. She accepted many teacher responsibilities without complaint. Taylor proved that she had the knowledge and ability to lead a classroom. She exemplifies the spirit of learning and leadership at McKnight, and her colleagues chose her as the Teacher Assistant of the year. Taylor also volunteers for the Humane Society of Cabarrus County and spends countless hours at adoption clinics on the weekends.
  • Sonya Allman:  Sonya Allman came to Kannapolis City Schools in 1994 as an Exceptional Children’s Teacher Assistant. She’s been at McKnight since 2002 and has served in many roles. She is now McKnight’s Self Contained Autism Teacher. Mrs. Allman took on the role last year after deciding she wanted to tackle a new setting. It was difficult to leave her students during the school year, but she knew she wanted to grow as an educator and teach children with Autism. She has high expectations for her students, and she always pushes them to do their best. She is an advocate for EC students and mainstreams their experiences as much as possible. She communicates well with her families and encourages parents to become advocates for their children. Mrs. Allman is also an expert on Donor’s Choose and has helped many McKnight teachers successfully complete Donor’s Choose projects. She is a wonderful asset, and everyone at McKnight appreciates her insights, talent, and experience.
