The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to honor outstanding representatives from the McKnight Child Development Center at its December meeting.

  • Angel Martinez-Carmona (Yovi):  Yovi Martinez-Carmona is a three-year-old student. He is a very loving and happy child who has been well accepted by his new peers. He enjoys the block center where he constructs many creative structures. He also enjoys the dramatic play area where he likes to play dress-up and use his imagination to act out familiar experiences from his home environment. We are very fortunate to have Yovi at Kannapolis Head Start.

  • Joshua Moss:  Joshua Moss is a four-year-old student. Since his time at Kannapolis Head Start, Joshua has made huge improvement. He is using his words to communicate, following classroom routines, and participating in large group activities. He continues to work hard each day, and he enjoys completing art and music activities and playground time.

  • Kissaundra Drye:  Kissaundra Drye is the mother of Jordan Drye, a four-year-old student.  Kissaundra was nominated by the McKnight staff to receive this recognition. She always comes to our building with a good attitude and a smile. She is a family-oriented person who loves to volunteer and currently serves as our Policy Council President. She is also a cheer mom for her sister, and she and her husband lead the Youth Department of their church, First Family Worship Center.

  • Stephanie Troutman:  Stephanie Troutman is the Environmental Specialist at Kannapolis Head Start. She came to McKnight almost two years ago. Since her arrival, she has transformed Head Start into one of the cleanest buildings in the district. Her attention to detail is beyond compare. The building runs like a well-oiled machine because of her hard work and determination. The staff sings her praises, and everyone at McKnight is very fortunate to have her working there.

  • Natasha Sifford:  Natasha has been at McKnight for five years and serves as a self-contained EC teacher for three- and four-year-olds. She is the epitome of a life-long learner.  She started her career as a teacher assistant at Kannapolis Head Start and has since received her Associates degree, Bachelor’s degree, and now has obtained her Master’s in Special Education. Natasha never gives up on any child and holds high expectations for all her students. She provides developmentally appropriate activities that help her children become successful at home and school. She also contributes highly to the school environment, helping with the car rider line without any complaint. She has been instrumental in the school readiness committee, helping to develop the school’s mission statement. Her leadership will take her places, and Kannapolis Head Start is blessed by her presence.
