  • Bryn Lafferty:  Bryn is a 4th grade student at Shady Brook. She is a wonderful student and a great role model. Bryn is always willing to help others and to be a friend to everyone. She pays attention to instruction and shows this in her work. She is the kind of student every teacher wants. Her peers overwhelmingly voted for Bryn to win this recognition because they respect and appreciate her. Bryn’s attitude, work ethic, and smile make Shady Brook a better place.        
  • Reagan Drye:  Reagan is also a 4th grader at Shady Brook. She is a hard worker who always strives to do her best. Reagan actively participates in class and asks meaningful questions when she needs clarification. She is a willing helper to her peers and always sets a good example for others. Reagan’s teacher can count on her to make the right choices in following school rules and meeting classroom expectations. Reagan enjoys dancing and reading in her spare time.

      

  • Selina Wheeler:  Selina Wheeler graciously volunteers her time three days a week in fourth grade at Shady Brook. As a former math teacher, she understands the importance of encouraging students to think through their problems, identify a strategy that works well for them, and show their work. Her instructional knowledge is a great help as she assists with small group instruction and math centers. Selina and her family also support the entire Shady Brook staff and student body through generous gifts, school supplies, and much more. In addition, Selina serves as a mentor to many students as she works with them through the Children’s Ministry at Kannapolis First Wesleyan. She encourages them to put forth their best effort, to be model citizens, and leaders in the classroom.

     

  • Toni Davis:  You only have to know Toni Davis for a few minutes to realize she is special. No matter what she does, she makes the experience better for everyone around her. She is a pillar of the Shady Brook community, and her innate talents combined with her work ethic, curriculum knowledge, and collaborative spirit have made Toni an esteemed role model for everyone at Shady Brook. She truly embodies the title, “Instructional Assistant.” Her talents are remarkable, and the students she works with see academic gains year after year. She leads by example and has a tremendous heart. The caring she displays goes well above the norm. She sets high standards, both academically and for character, and she holds students to those standards. However, her love is always evident and her students adore her.

              

  • Christy Parker:  Christy is a third grade teacher at Shady Brook. She has all the components of an exemplary educator. Her knowledge of instruction and content is second to none. She is adept at analyzing student data and has an intense focus on designing and implementing high level and engaging instruction. Her students’ test scores always show high proficiency and growth. But we know that being a great teacher is an art and goes beyond these measures. The relationship that Christy develops with her students is what sets her apart. The atmosphere she establishes in her classroom is one in which her students feel safe and empowered. They learn to build life skills that will ensure they are successful in the classroom, on the EOG, in upper grades, and throughout their life. Most of all, Christy’s students develop a passion for learning. She is loved by her students and the staff at Shady Brook. KCS is a stronger community by having her as part of it.
