The Kannapolis City Board of Education was proud to honor outstanding representatives from Kannapolis Middle School at its April  meeting.

  

Haley Mabe:  Haley Mabe is an outstanding 8th grade student at Kannapolis Middle School. She is an extremely caring, thoughtful, and helpful student who is always seeking to give and to do her best. Haley is very involved in her church and school. She shares her creativity in the KMS book and art clubs, and serves as an administrative, library, and teacher assistant. Haley is an honor roll student and member of the student council and the volleyball team. She is a wonderful role model and representative of Kannapolis Middle School.

 

Josie Laliemthavixay:  Josie Laliemthavixay is an 8th grader student at Kannapolis Middle School. She is a wonderful representation of the best KCS has to offer. She is stellar academically, socially, and athletically. Josie is a natural at all she chooses to do. She recently won the Young Author competition on the school, county, and state level. A winner on the field and off, Josie embraces others and serves as a role model for all. During the course of this year, she helped start the student services newsletter for KMS. Josie also works within the school community to serve the less fortunate with programs such as Operation Christmas Child.  

 

Leslie Williamson: Leslie Williamson is an active member of the Kannapolis Middle School PTSO. She has served as President for the last two years and is a faithful contributor to the district. Leslie is always willing to organize recognitions for teachers through gifts, providing meals or birthday bags. She is an excellent recruiter and can always be counted on to pull parent volunteers together for fundraisers, helping with athletic events, or volunteering to cover lunch duty. Leslie has a daughter at KMS and a son at A.L. Brown and can be seen regularly supporting all students at extra-curricular activities. She encourages all students and staff and always has a kind word or smile for anyone who needs it.

 

Quintin Klutz:  Quintin Klutz is a teacher assistant and athletic coach at Kannapolis Middle School. He initially came to the school in 2013 asking to help with the football team. He wanted to be a positive role model for the young men on the team. After serving as a substitute teacher and football coach, Quintin was hired as a teacher assistant at Kannapolis Middle School. He continued to coach basketball after the football season was over. During this school year, Quintin has served in the school detention room and has coached football and basketball. His calm demeanor and words of advice have a positive effect on students. He holds all students to a high standard and is respected by students and staff. Most days Quintin can be seen dressed in a suit checking in on students and teachers, helping out wherever he is needed.

           

Doretha Grier:  Doretha Grier has been teaching science in Kannapolis City Schools for 19 years and has been the district’s Teacher of the Year. She currently teaches 8th grade science at KMS and serves as the 8th grade department chair, grade level chair, and first responder for football and basketball. Doretha is a cooperating teacher for a student teacher and unofficially mentors new teachers by providing support and advice whenever needed. This year she hosted a high school student intern who dreams of being a teacher and specifically requested to work with Mrs. Grier. Doretha has a passion for teaching and learning. While she is a veteran teacher, Doretha embraces new technology and instructional strategies to provide the best opportunities for all students. She is truly a lifelong learner. She is dedicated not only to her profession but also to her family and church. Doretha always has a smile on her face and an encouraging word and is quick to offer assistance in any capacity to students and staff.
