Opening Convocation welcomes staff for 2016-17 school year

This is the image for the news article titled Opening Convocation welcomes staff for 2016-17 school yearKannapolis City Schools welcomed back staff for the 2016-2017 school year with its annual Opening Convocation on Tuesday, August 23rd. Nearly 800 staff members attended the event along with dozens of retired KCS educators, school board members, elected officials, and community leaders.

Superintendent, Dr. Chip Buckwell, led the convocation. During his remarks, he talked about the overwhelming feeling of home and family that exists within the district. He also talked about the dedication and excellence that are hallmarks of KCS staff as well as the many ways that KCS is supporting children and Creating the Future. 

Retired KCS principals, Jill Roach and Milton Taylor, also spoke during the event. They were joined by current KCS employees, Hortensia Delgado and Larry Efird. All the speakers shared how much KCS means to them and talked of the special place the district holds in their hearts. 

The convocation kicks off the school year for all KCS staff members. Students will return to school on Monday, August 29th.
