The Kannapolis City Board of Education is seeking input on proposed new elementary attendance zones. Board members are expected to vote on the new attendance boundaries during their regular meeting Monday, December 12th. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Kannapolis City Schools board room located at 100 Denver Street.

The new attendance zones are needed because KCS will add a new elementary school in August of 2017. Starting next August, Kannapolis Intermediate School will be converted into G.W. Carver Elementary and will become Kannapolis City Schools’ sixth elementary school.

The map below shows the proposed attendance zone for G.W. Carver Elementary. Students living within the outlined area would attend G.W. Carver Elementary beginning in August 2017. A full sized copy of the map will be available inside each elementary school office where families can view the proposed attendance lines in detail. Those maps will be posted beginning Monday, December 5th.

A preliminary version of the map was presented to families on September 19th during a district-wide parent meeting, and KCS leaders shared the map at fall PTO meetings held at each elementary school. The final version of the map is shown above and will be posted inside elementary school offices beginning December 5th. Families wishing to offer any additional feedback about the proposed boundary lines should contact school board members prior to Monday, December 12th. Board members’ names and contact information are available by clicking here

When G.W. Carver Elementary opens next August, it will offer an A+ Arts magnet program. G.W. Carver will become one of two magnet schools opening next August in KCS. Fred L. Wilson Elementary will become the other magnet school. It will offer a Global Studies program as well as a Spanish Language Immersion program. More details about all the magnet programs are available by clicking here or by viewing this video.

Families that live within the G.W. Carver and Fred L. Wilson attendance zones will automatically attend those schools. Families of elementary students that live outside the G.W. Carver and Fred L. Wilson attendance areas may apply to attend those schools beginning in January.  More information about the application timeline is available by clicking here
