Kannapolis City Schools’ bus driver, Bryson Nesbitt, has won the regional driving championship for the Southwest portion of North Carolina. According to officials from the NC Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh, Nesbitt's score was one of the best ever recorded for bus drivers in NC's "Bus Roadeo" competitions.

Nesbitt and other drivers had to demonstrate their driving abilities by navigating courses that tested their skills and concentration. They had to back up, parallel park, and make right turns with their buses. They also had to maneuver through barriers where there was as little as two inches of clearance on each side of the bus. Nesbitt and the other drivers also were rated on their ability make safe railroad track crossings and avoid obstacles in the road.

Nesbitt easily won the regional competition and will now compete for the statewide championship in Raleigh on May 29th. Nesbitt began driving for Kannapolis City Schools in April 2014.

Prior to winning the regional competition, Nesbitt won Cabarrus County's Bus Roadeo on May 5th. KCS had two other drivers, Terry Vogel and Rick Erwin, who also won awards in the Cabarrus competition.
