Everyone in Kannapolis City Schools is getting ready to SPRING IT ON to promote wellness and raise money for the Kannapolis Education Foundation. On March 15, KCS will host a 5K Walk-Run that is open to the entire community. It will be held at the North Carolina Research Campus beginning at 8:00 a.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Kannapolis Education Foundation.

The SPRING IT ON 5K is part of Kannapolis City Schools’ focus on wellness and is designed to involve the entire community. The City of Kannapolis is helping to sponsor the event as part of its emphasis on healthy living. The North Carolina Research Campus and many other businesses, churches, and organizations are also supporting the event.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Kannapolis Education Foundation, KCS will charge a $20 registration fee to enter the race. Because sponsorships and donations are covering most or all of the costs of the event, entry fees will be used to support the Kannapolis Education Foundation. “This is a really exciting partnership,” said KCS Superintendent, Dr. Pam Cain. “We have a strong focus on wellness in Kannapolis City Schools, and this is a great way to get the entire community involved in a healthy activity. It’s also a wonderful way to support the Kannapolis Education Foundation. The foundation does so much for our schools and we wanted to celebrate the 20th anniversary and support the work of the foundation. We also appreciate the support of the City of Kannapolis and the North Carolina Research Campus in helping us host this event. It’s going to be a wonderful day.”

Everyone who participates in the 5K will receive a t-shirt, and prizes will be awarded for top finishers. The event is open to all ages and participants may walk or run the course. Besides the 5K, there will also be a One Mile Fun. Registration for the fun run is $10. Advance registration for either race is available by going to the Races Online website (www.racesonline.com) and typing in “Kannapolis” or “Spring it On.” Then, register for the March 15th event.

For businesses and organizations that would like to have displays at the event, booth space is available at a cost of $50. Proceeds will help cover the cost of the 5K.

The race is being managed and timed by Charlotte Sports Timing.
