The Kannapolis City School District is now offering free courses to home school students that live within its district. Courses being offered include Latin, French, Chinese, and other world languages as well as Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Religion, Psychology, Computer Science, and scores of other high school and Advanced Placement courses. The classes are available online and can be accessed at home. KCS is also giving home school students access to fully licensed and highly qualified KCS teachers by appointment.

“We know that learning takes place in many ways and in different places,” said KCS Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Kelly Burgess. “We want to partner with home school families to meet their needs, offer more options for their children, give them access to licensed teachers, and make learning available to more students. We’re delighted that we can offer this program to Kannapolis home school students.”

The courses being offered are high school classes that can be accessed by middle school or high school aged students at no charge. For a complete list of Edgenuity courses that are available through KCS, please click here. KCS is also offering additional courses to home school students through its iKann program. iKann classes are taught online by fully licensed and highly qualified KCS teachers.

In order to take part in the KCS home school program, students must be enrolled in a licensed home school within the KCS district. They also must register for two classes per semester (4 per year) and make satisfactory progress throughout the semester. The Edgenuity and iKann courses offered by KCS are designed to supplement, not replace, the home school curriculum. Home school students that sign up for the KCS/Home School Partnership will have access to certified teachers on an appointment basis. Once students enroll in the program, they may choose to graduate from their home school or receive a KCS diploma when they meet their graduation requirements.
