Kannapolis City Schools graduate, Tavis Bailey, will represent the United States in the 2016 Summer Olymics in Rio. He will compete in the Discus Throw event beginning Friday, August 12.  

The Olympics will be aired on NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, MSNBC, and USA Network. The games also will be live streamed on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. The Discus Throw competition is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Friday, August 12th.

Tavis Bailey graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 2010 and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At A.L. Brown, Tavis was an outstanding student athlete and competed in football and track and field. At the University of Tennessee, he continued to be a standout scholar athlete and became a champion in the discus competition.

Bailey is the second A.L. Brown graduate to earn a spot in the Olympics. Championship hurdler and 1989 A.L. Brown graduate, Melissa Morrison, won two Olympic Bronze medals.
