Former Kannapolis City Schools’ student, Marcie Trivette, has been crowned Miss North Carolina United States 2017. She will represent North Carolina in the Miss United States pageant this summer. She is the second KCS student in the last three years to win the honor. 2010 A.L. Brown graduate, Elizabeth Safrit, was named Miss North Carolina United States in 2014. She went on to become Miss United States and placed third in the Miss World competition in London, England.

Marcie Trivette grew up in Kannapolis and attended Kannapolis City Schools. She went to Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Kannapolis Middle School, and A.L. Brown High School before moving and graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School. Her platform as Miss North Carolina United States is Autism Speaks. Trivette says she has fond memories of her time in Kannapolis City Schools. “I absolutely cherished my time with Kannapolis City Schools educators,” Trivette said.

Trivette competed in four phases of the Miss North Carolina United States contest: private interview, physical fitness, evening gown, and on-stage question. The emcee for the events asked Trivette her on-stage question, “What is your pet peeve?”

“My pet peeve is definitely texting and driving,” she responded. “I know so many people who have suffered horrific accidents due to texting and driving. Any of my friends who drive with me riding in the car know I can’t stand it. So, put the phones down everyone,” she said while smiling and wagging her finger at the audience.

The goal of the Miss United States pageant is to provide a life-changing experience for young women while giving a stage to their causes. Volunteerism is central to what the Miss United States organization promotes, and the emphasis on intellect, moral character and excellence brings candidates from all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

We are extremely proud of Marcie Trivette, and we wish her much good luck as she represents North Carolina in the Miss United States pageant in July.
