Congressman Richard Hudson visited Kannapolis City Schools' Wonder Welding Program to see the success of the district's education and workforce development partnership.

The Wonder Welding program is a collaboration between Kannapolis City Schools and Rowan Cabarrus Community College (RCCC). KCS provides the classroom space, welding equipment, and work lab for the program while RCCC provides the instructor.

A.L. Brown High School students that are part of the Wonder Welding Program can earn professional welding certifications while they are still in high school. They
also can earn college credit and gain valuable workplace experience.

Congressman Hudson toured the welding lab and spoke with students, the instructor, KCS staff, and school board members to find out how the program is working. He was very impressed with the students' skills and the value of the program to students and the community.

Representatives from RCCC, the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, Centralina Workforce Development Board, and the City of Kannapolis were also at the visit. They pointed out that welding is in very high demand in the Cabarrus and Rowan region. They said having students trained in welding will be a tremendous benefit to area businesses and the economic health of the region.

In addition to welding, Kannapolis City Schools offers a full range of Career Technical Education (CTE) and College and Career Promise (CCP) courses. Many of the other CTE and CCP courses also provide college credit and workforce certifications by the time students graduate from high school.
