Students from A.L. Brown High School have been crowned North Carolina Robotics Team champions. The A.L. Brown Robotics team won first place in the NC Beta Club’s Robotics competition in Greensboro. The A.L. Brown students will now represent the state of North Carolina at the national level.

Members of the A.L. Brown Robotics Team are Jason Chamnangam, Marco Gonzalez, Jackson Holsclaw, Jack Parker, Jesse Peterson, and Randon Philips. Their academic adviser is A.L. Brown Science and Engineering teacher, Jason Stegall.

As part of the Robotics competition, the A.L. Brown students had to build a robot that demonstrated their mastery of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. They also had to use all four STEM areas throughout the design, programming, construction, and implementation phase of the project.

Besides designing and building the robot, the Robotics Team competition was designed to showcase students’ critical thinking, decision making, collaboration, computational thinking, problem solving, communication, and analytical skills.

The A.L. Brown Robotics Team competed against high school teams from all over North Carolina. They will now travel to the National Beta Club convention in Orlando, Florida in late June to represent North Carolina at the national level.
