Projectors

Projectors

Most of our projectors are Epson projectors.  The following directions are taken from the Epson 77c manual and condensed for your convenience.  If you have a different projector, you may need to Google the particular model for more specific directions.

If a projector is not working properly, turn it off and disconnect the power cable.  Wait 10 seconds and then plug the cable back in and turn it on.  If the projector is still not working properly, check the status lights and compare them to the table below for recommended solutions.

Cleaning the Filter

Some of our NEC and InFocus projectors are DLP and not LCD projectors.  If you have a DLP projector, there is no air filter to clean.  If you have an Epson projector, you will need to clean the air filter on your projector twice a year.  Dust clogs it and prevents proper ventilation and can cause overheating.  This shortens the life of a projector bulb and ultimately, the life of the projector.  I suggest you clean filters at the beginning of each semester.

Instructions for Cleaning the Air Filter:

  1. Turn off the power.  Let the projector cool down.
  2. Unplug the power cord.
  3. Locate the air filter – most are on the bottom of the projector.
  4. Grasp the filter and slide it out.
  5. With the front of the air filter facing down, tap it four to five times to shake off the dust.
  6. With the back of the air filter facing down, tap it four to five times to shake off the dust.
  7. NOTE:  If the filter is torn you will need to replace it.
  8. Insert the filter back into the projector.  It should click into place.

Lamp/Bulb:

Viewing Usage – Press the Menu button and select Info.  Check Lamp Hours for usage.  If the number is close to 3000 or it is displayed in red, have a replacement bulb handy.

Instructions for Replacing the Lamp:

It is time to replace the lamp when the lamp light is flashing orange, the image is too dark to view comfortably, or the message “replace the lamp” appears on the screen.

  1. Turn off the power.  Unplug the power cord.  Let the projector cool down.
  2. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw holding the lamp cover on the top of the projector.
  3. Slide the cover out, then lift it off.

  1. Hold the lamp as shown and lift straight up.
  2.  Recycle or dispose of the lamp properly.  It contains mercury so DO NOT put it in the trash.
  3. Gently insert the new lamp in place along the guide rail.  If it doesn’t fit, rotate it until it slides into place easily.  Press down firmly where the PUSH label appears.
  4. Once the lamp is in place, tighten the internal screws.
  5. Replace the cover and tighten the screws.

Reset the Lamp Timer:

  1. Connect the power cable and turn on the projector.
  2. Press the Menu button and select the Reset menu.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Select the Lamp-Hours reset option.
  5. Press Enter.
  6. When you see the confirmation screen, press Yes, and Enter once more.
  7. Press Esc to return to the main menu or Menu to exit the menu system.

On-Screen Help:

Press the Help button to activate the Help menus.  Use the up and down arrows to highlight the problem you’re experiencing.  Press Enter when you have the correct problem highlighted to select it.

Follow the directions on the screen.  Press Esc to back up one screen or Help to exit.

Buttons not working:  Operation Lock function has been enabled.  Press  the Enter button and count to 10 to release the lock.

Can’t get projector and laptop to display simultaneously:  Right click on screen, then select graphic properties.  Click on basic mode.  Click on multiple displays, designate which is primary/secondary display.  Select clone.

Can’t get the Evaluation part of the Online professional development system to launch:

There are several user errors that regularly come into play.

1.  They try to log into it from home.  Unless you are using a VPN connection, this is not possible.  Since VPN confuses some folks, I suggest we tell them to log in from INSIDE any school.

2.  Once they are inside the school and attempt to log-in, they encounter the security certificate log-in screen.

- If they are on a Mac, there is no way to continue with the Chrome browser.  They will need to switch browsers or find a PC to use.

-If they are on a PC, click on Continue to get to the next screen.

3.  Once they are inside the school, and make it through the secure certificate screen, they don't have the correct log-in credentials.  Problem/Solutions:

-They type first.name@kcs.k12.nc.us (the @kcs.k12.nc.us is not needed.)

-They don't remember the password that goes with their desktop log-in. (we can reset the password)

-They have recently changed their desktop login, are trying to login with their laptop and didn't hard-wire the laptop to the network.  (hard wire the laptop and update the password on it)

4.  They are inside the school, made it through the secure certificate, and logged into the PD site.  When they select the Evaluation tab the encounter the next user error.

-they don't know their UID (user ID), specifically, they don't know if it is the last 2, 3,4,5, or 6 digits of their SS#.

-  If they have the correct UID, THEY HAVE TO CLICK ON THE "GO" BUTTON TO GET THE FORM TO POPULATE.
