State Farm has officially awarded its Neighborhood Assist grant to the Kannapolis Education Foundation. State Farm agent, Mary Beth Burgess, presented a $25,000 check during the October meeting of the Kannapolis City Board of Education. She gave the check to Kannapolis Education Foundation chairperson, Kristina Cook, KCS Director of Community Relations, Ellen Boyd, and KCS Superintendent, Dr. Chip Buckwell. The money will be used to help create an Advanced Manufacturing Lab in Kannapolis City Schools.

As part of her presentation, Mary Beth Burgess mentioned the tremendous need for skilled manufacturing employees in the Kannapolis area. The new Advanced Manufacturing Lab will train A.L. Brown High School students to fill available jobs in the Cabarrus / Rowan region.

The Kannapolis Education Foundation and Kannapolis City Schools earned the State Farm grant after competing with organizations from around the country. State Farm chose 40 organizations out of 2,000 applicants to receive one of its Neighborhood Assist grants.
