The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to honor outstanding representatives from McKnight Child Development Center at its November meeting.

We are very grateful to the Mary Beth Ballantine Burgess State Farm Insurance Agency for donating $100 to the McKnight library in appreciation of the honorees.

Nicholas Mata:  Nicholas Mata is a wonderful four year old student at Kannapolis Head Start. He has an enthusiasm and love for learning and has become confident in his abilities. He always comes to school with a big smile on his face. He approaches life as it is one big adventure. Nicholas has a bright future because is curious, smart and determined. His positive attitude and charming personality are infectious to everyone he meets, and he is very deserving of recognition.

Maria Gonzalez Blancas:  Maria Gonzalez Blanca is an amazing four year old student at Kannapolis Head Start. She is a bright little girl that has become a good student and friend to her peers. She has gained a great deal of independence and enjoys being at school every day. She is a shining example of how children can flourish when given an opportunity in a caring and nurturing environment. Everyone at McKnight is extremely proud of Maria.

Wanda Clowney:  Wanda Clowney has unanimously been chosen for recognition as the volunteer of the year for two years in a row at McKnight. She is a staple at Head Start, staying busy working on her “projects” throughout the program. The staff appreciates Wanda’s help in the car rider line and especially in helping make the most tactile and beautiful bulletin boards. She involves families and teachers and loves the children at McKnight. Mrs. Baucom is very appreciative of Wanda’s tenacity, especially when it comes to taking part in the Parent Council, where she is the acting President. Wanda has made the Kannapolis Head Start program a better place because of her caring and generosity.

Sandra Stamey:  Sandra Stamey is the Administrative Assistant at Kannapolis Head Start. She cares deeply for the staff members and goes above and beyond to help them any way she can. She stays on top of her duties by always working ahead of schedule. Sandra has the mind of an 18-year-old and thinks fast. She always maintains proper paperwork that is vital to the Head Start program, and she is a tremendous asset to everyone at Head Start.

Natasha Sifford:  Natasha Sifford has been employed with Kannapolis Head Start for eight years and is a self-contained EC Teacher for three- and four-year-olds. She is the epitome of a life-long learner. She started her career as a Teacher Assistant and has since earned her Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Special Education. Natasha holds high expectations for her students and never gives up on any child. She always provides developmentally appropriate activities that help her children become successful at home and at school. Natasha has been instrumental in providing professional development to her colleagues; she is an integral part of the Child Find team, and she recently received the EC teacher of the year award for the Head Start program.
