Kannapolis City Schools is now accepting applications for free pre-school classes.

The KCS Head Start and Wee Wonders programs are free, high quality, pre-kindergarten classes located at Woodrow Wilson Elementary and the McKnight Child Development Center.


KCS is now enrolling children who will turn four years old by August 31st for the 2018-19 school year. 


For families interested in signing up for the Wee Wonders program at Woodrow Wilson Elementary, KCS will hold special walk-in application sessions on February 12th and February 19th. On February 12, families may come anytime between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm to complete the application process. The walk-in application session on February 19 will be open from 2:30 until 6:30 pm. *Please see below for the list of materials to bring to the sessions. The February 12th and February 19th walk-in sessions are only for families interested in the Woodrow Wilson Wee Wonders program. Families interested in applying for the McKnight Child Development pre-school classes should call 704-932-7433 to set up an appointment or get more information. *In order to be accepted for KCS pre-K programs, families must meet eligibility requirements. 



  • Child’s Birth Certificate


  • Proof of residency (examples: Current lease agreement, mortgage, or utility bill that includes the parent or guardian’s name and address)


  • Family Income (Examples include: Pay stub to document 12 months or December 2017 pay stub, 2017 W-2 statement, 2017 income taxes, employer letter, Unemployment statement, SS or SSI, Child support monthly amount)


  • Copy of child’s current physical, which includes hearing, vision, and dental screenings (All should be signed and dated by physician)


  • Immunization Record


  • Child’s Medicaid or Health Insurance Card


  • Current Parent Photo ID


  • If the child is a foster child or an adult other than the parent is the legal guardian, please bring documentation showing legal custody and guardianship
